Hubbell’s Reverse Service Mechanical Interlock Meets Stimulus-Funded Wastewater Treatment Upgrades
Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Hubbell Wiring Systems is pleased to announce that the Hubbell CIRCUIT-LOCK Unfused Pin & Sleeve Reverse Service Mechanical Interlock meets the need for back-up power feed applications in wastewater treatment facility upgrades taking place across the nation.

“The recent American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) calls for stimulus funds to upgrade water filtration and wastewater treatment systems. In fact, about 17.1 billion stimulus dollars will go to water and environmental construction projects,” says Brooks Challenger, product manager for Hubbell. “We’re pleased to be the only manufacturer to offer an off-the-shelf Reverse Service Mechanical Interlock for this growing need.”

The CIRCUIT-LOCK device meets the National Electric Code (NEC) requirements for a separate line-of-site disconnect for all motor loads such as those found in large pumps and blowers at wastewater treatment facilities. These types of critical motors require back up power, which is made possible by reverse service. Because water is present in these environments, maximum safety is required. The Reverse Service Mechanical Interlock prevents the chance of an arc creating an unsafe situation by preventing users from mating or breaking a circuit under load.

The Hubbell CIRCUIT-LOCK Unfused Pin & Sleeve Reverse Service Mechanical Interlock features a Type 4X watertight, Type 12 dust-tight and UV stabilized non-metallic enclosure and stainless steel hardware for maximum reliability in corrosive wastewater treatment environments. The unit’s color-coded labels and large red lockable handles make it easily visible and identifiable as an interlock. The red handles also can be locked out with a 5/16-inch padlock in accordance with OSHA Lockout/Tagout regulations. For more information, contact Hubbell at 1-800-288-6000.
